Altec 605B in altec 620 cabinet

Hi,


My understanding is that the Altec 620 cabinets were designed for the Altec 604 series Duplex drivers.

If I were to use the Altec 605B (GPA recone) in a 620 cabinet would I have to make alterations to the port size?

I will be using Jeff Markwarts crossover design.

Also alternative suggestions for an ideal cabinet for these drivers are welcome.

Vent tuning depends on the room and where the speakers are in it as well as personal preference. What type of amp affects it too, therefore 'ideal' is very application dependent.

For instance, I prefer the driver centered slightly above my ears, so this cab is too short and since I generally prefer lower tunings, the increased size (assuming the same width, depth) gives a bit fuller sound. Using ducts or pipes to allow some tuning adjustment is a good plan.

Anyway, for a given cab alignment, the 605 will sound a little 'warmer' than a 604, so if it's too 'warm', a lower tuning solves it.
